18th Century Cottage

As part of the AGA restoration project, a comprehensive program of traditional building conservation and repair was carried out to restore the property’s historic integrity and appearance.

Key works included:

  • Careful removal of modern cement render to prevent further damage to the original masonry, followed by the gentle cleaning and repair of the underlying stonework using appropriate conservation methods.

  • Repointing using traditional lime mortar, allowing the building to breathe and helping to preserve the stone for the long term.

  • Installation of a new Welsh slate roof, selected to match the original in material and appearance, providing both durability and historical accuracy.

  • Repair and restoration of traditional sash windows and a stable door, enhancing both the visual and functional character of the property.

  • Reinstatement of period-appropriate iron railings and cast iron rainwater goods, reinstating the building’s historic features and contributing to its architectural authenticity.

These works aimed to revive the historic character of the building while ensuring its structural integrity and sustainability for years to come.
