Old Caerleon University

The old Caerleon University building including the caretakers house and principles house 1920 was bought by Acorn Propery Group to convert into luxury apartments and homes.

The heritage office required the building to have all modern structure removed and the original designs reinstated.  To meet planning conditions we had make sure the building was watertight by October with a March start giving 8 months.

Our work involved removing 600m of cast iron guttering and 150 lengths of cast down pipe to take to back to our work shop and restore.

The fascia boards were also restored before the rainwater goods were fitted
Each section of rainwater goods were blast cleaned, rubber lined and received 5 coats of paint.

All stone and brick were cleaned with the DOFF steam method and carbon removed with soda blasting.

There were thousands of meters of repointing and stone repairs with 30 arched brick and stone wondow openings  reinstated after demolition removed extension buildings.
Over 300m of st bees sand stone

And 16,000 specially made imperial bricks.

Facilitating works were included such as propping demolition and steel burning.
Extensive roofing repairs and removal of dormers.

More delegate work included the restoration of two clock faces which were copper discs 1.8m in diameter, hand painting the Roman numerals.
We also restored stained glass windows and lead lights.
